“When Do I Start Feeling Like Myself Again?”

A Gentle Way to Move After Baby in Richmond, BC

At some point after having a baby, many parents ask themselves the same quiet question.

“When do I start feeling like myself again?”

Not necessarily the old version of yourself. But a version where your body feels strong again. Where picking up your baby doesn’t leave your back aching. Where your shoulders don’t feel permanently tight from feeding, carrying, rocking, and holding.

And maybe… where you get a little moment to move your body just for you.

The tricky part is that the postpartum body doesn’t always respond well to jumping straight back into intense workouts. Many parents feel ready to move again but aren’t sure what kind of movement is actually safe or supportive.

That’s exactly why we created the Postnatal + Baby: Restore, Strengthen & Move Together class at Form & Function in Richmond, BC.

And to make it easy for parents to try, we’re offering 6 free trial classes this March for anyone who wants to experience the class and see if it’s a good fit.

Because starting something new after baby can feel like a big step, and we want to make that first step easier.

The Postpartum Body Is Doing More Work Than You Think

Even weeks or months after giving birth, your body is still adapting.

Your core has stretched and needs time to rebuild. Your pelvic floor is relearning how to support movement. And suddenly your daily routine involves lifting, carrying, feeding, rocking, and pushing a stroller.

It’s a lot.

Many new parents experience:

  • lower back tension

  • tight shoulders and neck

  • weak or disconnected core muscles

  • fatigue from constantly holding or carrying baby

The good news is that gentle, intentional movement can help restore strength and stability over time.

But it needs to be the right kind of movement.

What Makes a Good Postnatal Fitness Class?

A supportive postpartum class focuses less on intensity and more on rebuilding the foundations of movement.

In our Postnatal + Baby class, we combine:

  • Pilates-inspired core restoration

  • pelvic floor awareness

  • functional strength training

  • gentle mobility and stretching

The goal is simple: help your body feel stronger and more supported in everyday movements.

Things like lifting your baby, getting up from the floor, carrying a diaper bag, or pushing a stroller.

Yes, Baby Is Welcome

One of the biggest barriers to returning to exercise after birth is childcare.

That’s why babies are welcome to stay beside you during class.

Bring a mat or blanket and your baby can rest nearby while you move. If your baby needs feeding, soothing, or a moment of attention, that’s completely normal.

The environment is flexible, calm, and understanding of the reality of caring for a newborn.

There is no expectation that babies stay perfectly quiet or still.

This class is designed with that in mind.

Who This Class Is For

Our Postnatal + Baby class is ideal for:

  • parents 6+ weeks postpartum (or when cleared for exercise)

  • anyone wanting to rebuild core strength safely

  • parents easing back into movement gradually

  • caregivers who would enjoy meeting other parents in the same stage of life

Prenatal participants are also welcome, and our instructors will offer modifications to support pregnancy safely.

More Than Just Exercise

Many parents tell us the unexpected benefit of a mom and baby class is simply being around others who understand this stage of life.

Parenthood can be beautiful, but it can also feel isolating at times.

Moving together in a supportive space often creates a sense of community that makes the experience even more meaningful.

Sometimes the most helpful thing is simply knowing you’re not doing it alone.
